During our holiday on. The Gold Coast , Ken arranged to watch 2 matches at the People’s Bank Stadium at Nerang being:
Gold Coast vs Brisbane
Gold Coast vs Richmond.
The Gold Coast vs Brisbane was billed as a stand out match which would likely determine ne whether the Gold Coast finally get to play AFL Finals football and / or whether Brisbane being second open thje AFL ladder would continue to March open towards the finals and put a dent into the hopes of the Gold Coast.
Ken booked his ticket on line and drove to Varsity Laskes Railway station intending to park and catch the train from there to Nerang and then the free bus to the Stadium, but the best laid plans fall apart when there is scheduled maintenance work upon the rail=ways tracks and the train replaced by fee bus transport.
But it all worked well. He arrived to see the second. Half of the VFL game between both sides seconds ands it was a terrific high skille match with Brisbane coming rom behind to lead by one point at the 30th minute and after a free kick kick the las=t goal with 7 seconds remaining to win by 7 points.
It was about that time the weather changed and deteriorated with the ground and stadium being covered by heavy rainfall for the next hour and this then continued as steady drizzle until Ken arrived home here at Cabarita Beach.
The m,arch was a display of how improved Gold Coast are and should threaten for finals, whilst Brisbane were simply outplayed and were quite ordinary.
Attached are several photos.
Ken left the game at the 10 minute mark of the final quarter at a time when trhe drizzle was very light before heavier downpours. He boarded a Bus after a 2 minute wait transferred by bus to Nerang walked across the the Station area and straight onto a bus to Varsity Lakes. Departed the bus ther just as a heavy shower came through, waited some 10 minutes under cover before walking to the Car park. The Drive home at 4.40pm was in the dark with wiper blades working the whole day.
