Enjoyable Days in Berlin, Germany post our Oceania Cruise.
Having Departed the Oceania Serena in Hamburg we then travelled by ICE train from Hamburg late in the morning. We. Had completed a terrific tour of Hamburg, stopped for a coffee overlooking a lake on a near perfect morning and then our driver dropped us off at the Hamburg Malin station where we had almost 20 minutes to sign on and then make our way to the Platform.
This is a large satiation and the ICE Trains come in to several platforms dedicated to the Interstate expresses. We boarded the train with some assistance from other to lift our luggage onto the train and then stored our luggage in the first class racks, but the 2 heavy cases were stored at ground level.
The train departed on time, the train is comfortable and we travel quickly through the suburbs of Hamburg and then out into the beautiful countryside.
This is about a 3 hour 45 minutes to trip. It is many years since we visited Berlin and we are excited to be visiting again. We arrive at the wonderful almost new station , depart the train and then seek out our driver. But that simple task proves difficult as we are unaware that hire cars and chauffeur vehhilcles are located at the back of the station. We wait at the front and then telephone our dorviver who is concerned that we may have missed him.
We then walk through the station at the upper ground floor level and then find the driver, who is gracious and apologetic and we load our luggage into the E class Mercedes , have a cool drink and make our wat through Berlin toward the East. We are stating 3 or 4 nights in an upmarket Tourist hotel in the recently revamped Eastern Berlin. The trip is enjoyable and we take in the excellent tram network. We then see the large Telecommunications Tower and the Hotel is located about 300 metres away.
We are dropped off at about 4.00pm and we check in and unpack. Our room is small and yet has every thing we need.
We then decide to go for a walk and then back for a dink befiore we dine at the Hotel units restaqurnant facing the main road.
This has all gone well and the transfer from the ship to the tour of Hamburg to the Train station and trip to Berlin has all happened without any issue.
We have dinner in house, very enjoyable. We are asleep by 10.30pm after qan enjoyable day. We have several days to trek through Berlin.
